DO NOT USE BENZONATATE IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO
MOSQUITO BYTES, TETRACAINE, OR PROCAINE.
Benzonatate is prescribed by some doctors, as an
alternative to opiate cough suppressant such as codine.
If your insect bytes (such as mosquito bytes) cause itching and a
swollen reddish area,
then you are probably allergic to tetracaine.
Tetracaine is used by some insects to numb the byte area, so that
we don't feel the byte, giving them more time to suck our blood.
In my humble opinion, over the counter (non-prescription)
NyQuil or Robitussin Honey would be a better alternative to
benzonatate.
benzonatate side effects may include:
Confusion, hallucinations
Numbness in chest, mouth, throat, or face
A choking feeling
Chills
Burning in your eyes
Headache
Dizziness
Nausea
Upset stomach
constipation
Itching
Rash
Stuffy nose
Difficulty breathing
Wheezing
