FAILURE, OF THE USA, TO ACCEPT THE METRIC
STANDARD OF MEASUREMENTS
Why are we still using units of measurements standardize in 1832?
Almost every country in the world is using the metric system, now
known as the International System of Units (SI). The U.S. National
Institute of Standards (NIST) prefers the metric system. High
Schools and Universities prefer and teach the metric system.
It would be very difficult to solve problems in Physics and
Chemistry using U.S. Customary Units (i.e. inches, feet, yards,
miles, pints, gallons,..etc). And in microscopy, we only use the
metric system (micrometers and nanometers) to measure microscopic
things. For example, a Covid-19 virus is 120 nanometers, try
converting that to U.S. Customary Units (a little sarcasm).
In the 1950s and 1960s, the US auto industries lobbied against
adopting the metric system, saying that it would cost them too much
money to retool. But I believe that the tool makers wanted to have
two measuring systems, that way, professional mechanics and most
persons who like to do some mechanical work (on their cars, trucks,
motorcycles, lawnmowers, etc) would have to buy two sets of tools,
one metric and one US customary.
In electronics and computers we use metric prefixes all the time.
(e.i. Megahertz, Gigahertz, Megabytes, Gigabytes, Kilowatts, etc).

So, government officials and politicians, what are you waiting for?
Make the metric system our official measuring system of the United
States.
