CREATING A "PIXELS TO MICRONS"
CONVERSION TABLE Revised
Dec. 2025
The simplest way to create a "pixels to microns"
conversion table, for a specific digital camera, is to borrow or
buy a special microscope slide that has a one millimeter ruler
engraved in it. They can be bought through the internet (it's
priced between $13 and $19).
Here is an example image.

Then, you need to capture images of this ruler/slide with your
digital camera, using the available camera resolutions and using
each of the objective lenses (e: 4x, 10x, 40x,100x). Then move the
captured images to a folder. Then, using an image manipulation
application, measure (in pixels) a part of the ruler. This will give
you the numbers necessary to compute the conversion factor that will
be entered in the table. I am including bellow, some samples, so you
can see the simple math applied to each image. I should mention that your camera should have a
10x microscope lense. The microscope
camera lense, that I have, can be used with a Nikon or a Canon
camera, and it is a 10x, and it slides into any of the microscope
visual ports.

If you create a table for your camera, and would like to see it
posted on this web site, I will be glad to add it. And if you would
like your name posted with the table, that's OK too. Just send me
email, with the table, to iq@manyportals.info
